The journey of my life was realigning with a truth that I now knew was undeniable for my personal growth as well as my financial prosperity. The Wizard of Oz and Dorothy’s journey with the yellow brick road is a great metaphor for understanding the Hero’s Journey. Dorothy had a yearning as a small farm girl. She would often look out onto the farmland and wonder what else was out there. Her journey began when she got hit in the head, fell into a deep sleep and woke up in Oz. Dorothy knew she wanted to go back home and so began her journey down the yellow brick road. In her many encounters with new friends and foes, including almost dying, Dorothy had to share and participate at every junction in order to find her way back. The yellow brick road was long and unknowing. Dorothy, after many trials and tribulations, returns to the ordinary world. Her views had changed; she had been transformed.
My yellow brick road had begun. I applied, was accepted, and enrolled in Massage school. I had a friend who was going to attend school in the same city, so we decided to find a place together and share rent. I also had to take steps to preserve what I had in the community I was leaving as I knew I would be back in a year. My oldest son, who was starting high school, did not want to leave. A dear friend of the family stepped up and said they had an extra room in their home, and that my son could live a year with them. We all agreed. My younger son made the journey with me as he was in middle school. I was fully in this; committed. It was scary and exciting.
I remember clearly the day I drove off with a cargo trailer and car loaded. I cried the whole four hour journey to my new home. I was so scared. What had I done?
My lesson was share and participate.
Share: Let go of fear. When I began to share my ambitions, my world opened up.
Participate: I showed up to live my new life; attuned to direction changes.
I am in the journey.
I had yearnings and nudges.
I listened, started to share and actively participate.
I made inquiries that were building my journey.
Possibilities now more real than ever.
I could not go back. I am in the transformation.
